Resting Rhino

The rhino resting in the urban space provides clues of the long evolution of life on our planet. The rhinoceros was already on Earth sixty million years ago, in many species and in great numbers. Today, there are only five species left. Three of these are acutely threatened by extinction, two are in the danger zone. Yemisi Wilson wants to make us aware of the animal species that have been part of nature’s fauna for millions of years.

Her own artistic work follows the tradition from the earliest history of humankind, of shaping meaningful and elegant images from stone blocks. The first artwork of stone is dated to at least 10,000 years before our own era.
