Welcome to the opening of OPENART 2026 on Saturday, June 13, from 12–4 pm! We open the doors at 12 pm with a soft launch of this year’s exhibition, where our hosts will be ready to welcome visitors. The official opening program begins at Järntorget at 1 pm, along with activities taking place throughout Örebro’s city center.

36 artists will present more than 40 artworks in the 2026 biennial.
The opening ceremony will take place at Järntorget at 1 pm, featuring representatives from OpenArt as well as Municipal Executive Board Chair John Johansson (S), and municipal commissioners Maria Haglund (M) and Jimmy Nordengren (C).
Throughout the day, and in between the formal program, a variety of activities will take place — including performances, dance, and much more.
You are warmly welcome to Örebro to experience the biggest art event of the summer — OpenArt 2026. All events during the opening day are free of charge and open to the public.

Saturday June 13
Järntorget
12 pm The creative workshop Reversed Zoo opens at Järntorget.
12 pm - 4 pm Opening celebration of the world’s first Reversed Zoo with the artist duo JAM Public.
12 pm - 1 pm Elena Wolay from JAZZ ÄR farligt at Järntorget – DJ set
12 pm - 4 pm Performance and creative activities with JAM Public at Järntorget
1 pm - Opening program on the main stage. The opening is hosted by Ika Johannessen:
- Elin Persson, Head of the Art Unit, gives the welcome address.
- Conversation with politicians: John Johansson, Chair of the Municipal Executive Board (S); Emelie Jaxell, portfolio holder (M); and Jimmy Nordengren, municipal commissioner (C).
- Producer Mattias Käll and Program Manager Mark Andersson present this year’s OpenArt program.
- Presentation of the participating artists.
- Presentation of the day’s program and an invitation to head out and experience the art.
- Closing remarks from the host, followed by music.
1.30 pm - 4 pm Elena Wolay from JAZZ ÄR farligt at Järntorget – DJ set
Örebro Municipality has transformed the surroundings around the artwork Reversed Zoo at Järntorget into a lovely summer square. Enjoy summery seating areas and swing benches, play in the play area, or borrow a book.
Örebro Art Gallery
12 pm - 4 pm Örebro konsthall and the OpenArt Info Center are open. Take the opportunity to borrow a discovery kit and explore OpenArt on your own with the whole family.
12 pm - 4 pm Opening for Varvara & Mar - Ask Anything at Örebro Art Gallery.
12 pm - 12.15 pm The artist duo Varvara & Mar gives an introduction to their solo exhibition Ask Anything at Örebro Art Gallery.
12 pm OpenArt Infocenter at Örebro Art Gallery opens.
3 pm Dance performance by PARAMOUR at Kulturgården outside Örebro Art Gallery and Kulturkvarteret.
Around the city centre of Örebro:
10 am - 4 pm The exhibition Wonderland – a magical world of imagery by Kristy Mitchell at Örebro Castle (admission ticket required).
11 am - 5 pm The exhibition Från ishockey till dribblingar på duk by Jesper Nilsson is displayed at Vågengallerian.
11.30 pm -14.30 pm Saturdays at Bubblan, the creative workshop at Örebro Library.
12 pm - 15 pm Ateljéhuset F2 presents the exhibition The World’s Slippery Ambiguity, an exchange project with five Örebro artists and six Turkish artists through Kasa Gallery in Istanbul.
12 pm - 4 pm Dance performances by KFUM Massive Attack at three locations:
Köpmangatan 12 pm, Fisktorget 12.45 pm, Kulturgården 2 pm.
12 pm - 4 pm A member of the juggling group TRIX on stilts moves between locations in the city: Våghustorget, Stortorget, Kulturgården.
1.45 pm Performance: PASSING with artist Gina Disobey. Teaterplan.
3 pm This year’s participating artists will be stationed by their artworks to meet visitors and talk about their work.
7 pm Castle concert with V&S musical collective at Örebro Castle.
Sunday June 14
12 pm - 4 pm Örebro Art Gallery and the OpenArt Info Center are open.
12 pm - 4 pm Opening celebration of the world’s first Reversed Zoo with the artist duo JAM Public.
12 pm - 4 pm Burning and embroidery circle in Solastalgia Pangolin. Outside Nikolaikyrkan.
1 pm - 2 pm Performance: The Garden of Fragments with artist Bahzad Sulaiman

The event is free of charge and part of OpenArt’s opening program. No pre‑registration is required.
Accessibility at Järntorget
Örebro Art Gallery and OpenArt Info Center are accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers. The OpenArt creative workshop inside the artwork Reversed Zoo is also accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers.
