In the courtyard of Örebro Castle, a crystal chandelier lies on the ground. An object that normally hangs high above us, associated with power and historical splendour, has been brought down to the observer. What once signified hierarchy has become accessible and vulnerable. Johan Ibrahim Adam returns in his work to the crystal chandelier as a symbol of class and representation. In his art, he examines how materials and architecture carry built-in power structures. By using readymade objects with clear historical associations, he exposes how our common spaces are shaped by these narratives. What happens when a symbol of the powers that be is placed at our feet?
