Shelter Pavilion

A pavilion built of wood, doors and windows floats on the Svartån River, forming an open space with several passengers. José Luis Torres often works with recycled materials from construction and demolition sites. By collecting, stacking and reshaping the parts, he creates temporary architectural elements that materialize in relation to their installation location. In his work, he touches on issues of migration, survival and how people create new living environments. Shelter Pavilion can be seen as both a temporary residence and a bodily form. For Torres, the simple hut becomes an image of human inner space, raising questions of home, belonging and vulnerability.
