1980, Sweden

I enjoy experiencing art in many different places, and I believe that public art and public art events presented outside major art institutions are essential for making art and cultural experiences accessible to everyone. Ideally, they should exist in the everyday environments where people move through their daily lives. Activating places that may sometimes be a bit overlooked, and bringing out their qualities with a sense of playfulness, has been a characteristic aspect of my practice.

I have previous experience working in both outdoor and indoor environments. I find that one of the most stimulating aspects of public artworks is discovering points of connection with the site and the surrounding area where the work is installed. Being part of giving a place an identity, and possibly creating a landmark that visitors may seek out, is also a rewarding part of the process.

One of my public projects is my trailer-mounted sauna – Artsauna.
A sauna that becomes a social meeting place and a cultural hub featuring art exhibitions, performances, live music, dance, and other forms of art. The sauna, which has visited many different cities and several areas in Stockholm, also contributes to the conversation about the open public space and the possibilities for citizens to spontaneously use the city in various ways.

This work is part of OPENART LINKS and is located in Nora.
