1985, Iran, based in Sweden

Sadaf Ahmadi is a multidisciplinary artist who in his practice is interested in issues of religion, politics and human rights. The artwork in OpenArt reflects Sadaf Ahmadi's past in 90s Iran when she was a young, veiled girl. Initially proud of her devoutness and societal acceptance, but a shift occurred at 15 when she rejected the strict path. This led to a new understanding of women's possibilities but also brought isolation. Her artwork represents what she has fought against since then, and what she sees in Iran, a self-imposed prison and disembodiment required of women who want to be considered proper and to receive the advantages that conformity offers.
