1964, Sweden

Photo: Per Johnsson

Peter Johansson explores his own childhood from Dalarna, the "heart" of Sweden, which has long been a metaphor for the Swedish identity and exploited by the tourism industry. He challenges popular and national issues from a Swedish and humorous, almost laughable perspective.

With folkloric material, the Dalecarlian horse, the sausage, the folk dance, the nudity and the red cottages, Johansson's installations and sculptures bring down the kingdom of Sweden in order to shut the mouth of racist acts and agitation – even if it's not always successful.
