Hanna Stansvik is a Swedish artist exploring intimacy and nearness. Stansvik almost always uses herself as a model, allowing her to stage and reproduce human moments of being alone and at ease, or at play. It also lets her be experimental, irreverent and playful in her subject matter. Lately, Stansvik has closed the distance between the subject of her paintings and the onlooker, further challenging the power balance and implications of the gaze. In a series of new sculptures, Stansvik explores matters of embodiment and presence.
